What this desk does

It explains, in a desk-reference format: the crash file and how to build it, California's reporting rules, the local agencies that take reports, the insurance structure, the county's freeway geography, the collision types, and the fault rules. Each topic file stands alone and links forward to the next logical file.

Grounding rules

  • Every statutory statement maps to a public source listed at the foot of the file.
  • No invented statistics, averages, verdicts, or anecdotes. Where a number would be useful but no public source exists, the file says so — and explains the structure instead.
  • Local agency facts — addresses, offices, jurisdictions — are verified against public agency pages before publication, and the verification date is stated.
  • No legal advice and no medical advice, ever. Where a file approaches that line, it says what the rule is and stops.

What is never published

  • Advertising, sponsored content, or affiliate links.
  • Referrals to any particular attorney, clinic, or service.
  • Testimonials, reviews, or case stories — real or invented.
  • Crash statistics the desk has not fetched and cited from the underlying public data itself.

The desk network

This desk is part of a small network of editorial desk references. Its sister publications — the Car Accident Injury Desk, the San Diego Soft Tissue Desk, and the others listed in the footer — cross-link where topics meet. Each is an independent editorial publication with the same grounding rules.

Authorship

Files are written and reviewed by the desk's editorial team under the byline "San Diego Car Accident Desk — Editorial". No outside contributor, sponsor, or client influences content. If that ever changes, this page will say so before anything else.

Corrections

Errors are corrected on the record: the file is fixed, the correction is noted here with its date, and the "last reviewed" field on the file's header is updated. No silent edits.

Current record: no corrections outstanding as of October 15, 2026. A correction log will appear here when the first correction occurs.

Content dependencies (what this desk still needs)

One planned addition requires data this desk does not yet hold: a corridor-by-corridor crash profile built from the CHP's public SWITRS data. Until that data is fetched and cited, no such numbers appear anywhere on this site — the roads file states the geography only. Local agency addresses and hours were verified October 15, 2026; they are re-verified before any edit that touches them.
